Hair loss can be an emotional roller coaster. Whether you’re noticing extra strands on your pillow or a widening part, it’s natural to feel concerned. From oils to fancy shampoos, the options seem endless, but many fall short. We often hear about PRP therapy for hair and immediately hope for an instant, magical fix. However, let’s be real—it has become quite trendy, especially in cosmetic treatments.
In today’s digital era, people increasingly turn to AI, Instagram, and influencers for quick answers and ready-made solutions. As a result, many clinics—though not all—now rely on digital ads and influencers to gain publicity and achieve quick returns. Unfortunately, this has led to a flood of misleading or false information about PRP therapy. Consequently, patients often struggle to determine whether they are the right candidates, how long results will take, or if the quick fixes they see online are truly long-lasting. With so much misinformation, it has become increasingly difficult to know whom to trust.
PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) is a hair restoration treatment that uses your body’s natural healing power. It involves drawing a small amount of blood, isolating and concentrating growth factor-rich platelets (about 3–6 times higher than normal), and injecting them into areas of hair thinning or loss.
Think of PRP like haldi (turmeric) in your grandma’s remedies—natural, powerful, and already a part of you! These enriched platelets activate dormant hair follicles, boost blood flow, and nourish the scalp to encourage natural regrowth.
For most people, 3–4 sessions typically spaced one month apart are enough to see visible improvement in hair thickness and regrowth. This schedule allows your scalp to absorb and respond to the treatment while aligning with your natural hair growth cycle. However, the number of PRP sessions required varies based on the quality and concentration of the PRP used. Super-dose PRP or high-quality PRP, which contains a higher concentration of platelets and growth factors, can reduce the number of sessions needed for effective results
Some clinics push for extra sessions because their PRP lacks the necessary potency to deliver effective results in fewer treatments. When PRP is prepared correctly—using the right concentration of platelets and certified equipment—you won’t need as many sessions.Often, clinics lure patients in with too-goodto-be-true deals, like “pay for 5 sessions, get 3 free”.
Before signing up for PRP sessions, check with your clinic
Good PRP has at least 3–5 times higher platelets than your normal platelet count. Anything less? It’s like paying for biryani but getting plain rice.
Trustworthy clinics use Class II medical-grade devices, not cheap diagnostic tubes meant for regular blood tests. Such Inferior tubes trap essential platelets, reducing effectiveness of PRP therapy and its results
PRP therapy is not about quantity but quality. More sessions don’t always mean better results—the right PRP, prepared correctly, can give you visible hair regrowth with long lasting results in fewer treatments.
However, please note if hair loss is not caused by stress or lifestyle factors but rather by conditions such as PCOS, hormonal changes, or other internal factors, it is best to first address the underlying issue with appropriate medication. Treating the root cause before or alongside PRP therapy can lead to longerlasting results and help prevent recurring hair loss
